This work is a reflection and exploration of how I, as a Dutch Chinese adoptee, relate to the Chinese culture whilst being very much estranged from it. Gathered from my entire photo archive, which became both the research and a meditation itself, I’ve printed 31 childhood images onto plexiglass and composed them into a collage resembling ideas and memories of what “Chinese” means to me: blurred, estranged, cut-out and partially ungraspable.
